Wee will Wee will Rock You!

This week, a “Cool” dad came in the shop with a very busy little boy. I was not surprised when I discovered that he was a musician. Well, come to find out, he had just released a Children’s CD, called “Wee Rock"! Of course I was dying to hear it, so being the cool dude that he was, he gave me a complimentary copy. I played it all afternoon, and discovered, not only did I enjoy it, but the children that came in the shop loved it. Two days later, I had it on my front counter, as our hot new item. "Wee Rock" is the creation of husband and wife team Greg and Erin Paxton. They live locally, in Long Beach, with their son, Jonathan, whose antics were their inspiration. It is on sale now at Recurrent Dreams for $12.99 (regular $16.99). Songs include, “Runny Nose Bunny”, “Hey Daddy!”, “My Tea Party”, Silly Sammy”, and more. It is not available on our online store yet http://www.RecurrentDreams.com, however, just call us, and we will ship it to you. 562-597-8500. If you have heard it, I would love to read your comments.

Through the Looking Glass

Okay . . . so I aspire to be like Alice in Wonderland. Let me clarify this statement, so you don't think that I am from the sixties acid generation. When I read Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and "Alice Through the Looking Glass", I see Alice as a curious child on an imaginative adventure, meeting a cast of whimsical characters along the way. That is MY ALICE! Well . . . I just finished reading a bazaar review stating that some view "Alice in Wonderland" as a metaphor for the bodily mutations of female puberty, or as a covert paean to hallucinogenic drug abuse! I THINK NOT!. For me, both books are fascinating timeless literature of a child's sense of wonderment. So there Grace Slick! Actually I love Jefferson Airplane. Anyways, the latest edition, of "Alice Through the Looking Glass", illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, has beautiful sepia-toned illustrations and full-color paintings! They read at a third grade level, perfect for my two girls ages 8 & 11. I fully recommend re-reading these latest editions with your children. View it on my online store at http://estore.websitepros.com/805672/Detail.bok?no=115 . P.S. I posted some editorial reviews, under comments.

Fireflies and Fairies

Did you know that every time you see a firefly, a pixie fairy has earned her wings? So says Fairy Fiona, resident fairy at "Recurrent Dreams". And she should know, coming from the Enchanted Garden and all. Fairy Fiona . . what can I say . . she loves tea parties . . and telling stories . . and making little girl's wishes come true! I have gotten to know her very well , because I am the shopkeeper at Recurrent Dreams. You see, one starry evening, just before closing, Fiona fluttered in, needing a new wand. She was so impressed with our fairy finery, she asked "Can I come back and share my stories with the children?" "Of course" I exclaimed, "We will hold Fairy Tea Time every Saturday, and have parties on Sundays!" That was over a year ago now, and I have become quite an authority on fairies and tea parties since then. What fun!
